Oxi-Tech Solutions has secured Innovate UK funding for a two-year Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the University of Warwick, bringing together industry expertise and world-leading electrochemical research to advance the next generation of chemical-free water disinfection technology.
Starting in 2027, the collaboration will focus on accelerating the development of Oxi-Tech’s patented Pulse Oxidation™ technology, which generates disinfecting ozone directly from water and electricity using boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes. By reducing the need for traditional chemical disinfectants, the technology offers a more sustainable approach to hygiene and water treatment.
Combining commercial expertise with cutting-edge research
The partnership will combine Oxi-Tech’s experience in developing and commercialising advanced water treatment solutions with Warwick’s expertise in electrochemistry, advanced materials and cell engineering. Together, the teams will work on creating next-generation product platforms for both compact ozone generation systems and larger-scale industrial applications.
Research will focus on several key areas, including:
- Improving ozone-generation efficiency
- Extending product lifespan
- Reducing manufacturing costs
- Developing electrical diagnostics to monitor performance and identify faults
- Gaining a deeper understanding of long-term system degradation
These developments are expected to make chemical-free disinfection more accessible, scalable and commercially viable across industries that currently rely on chemical cleaning products and energy-intensive hot-water disinfection.
Supporting the future of industrial hygiene
The programme will support the development of technology for a range of applications, from smaller distributed water treatment systems to large-scale industrial clean-in-place (CIP) operations. Oxi-Tech believes these advances could help businesses reduce chemical usage, lower energy consumption and minimise environmental impact while maintaining the highest hygiene standards.
With the global clean-in-place market estimated at around $10 billion, the partnership represents a significant opportunity to expand the reach of Oxi-Tech’s technology and strengthen the UK’s position in advanced clean technology manufacturing.
Driving innovation in UK clean technology
The project is expected to help expand Oxi-Tech’s intellectual property portfolio and accelerate the commercialisation of new electrochemical disinfection systems. By bringing together British scientific expertise, advanced materials research and commercially proven technology, the partnership marks an important step in Oxi-Tech’s mission to provide a viable alternative to conventional chemical-based disinfection methods.
Commenting on the announcement, Paul Morris, CEO of Oxi-Tech Solutions, said:
“The opportunity to work with world-leading experts in the field of electrolytic chemistry, and the ability to combine our rapidly developing industry knowledge with Warwick’s unrivalled technical expertise, is too good a chance to miss. We are delighted to have been awarded this grant funding and, in conjunction with our materials partner Element Six, this could genuinely create something unique for the UK’s CleanTech industry over the next few years.”
As the project gets underway, Oxi-Tech looks forward to developing new innovations that will help organisations meet growing demands for effective, sustainable and chemical-free disinfection solutions.
