Pulse Oxidation Dairy (POd) reduces energy costs by 24% and outperforms conventional disinfection systems: Innovate UK DEFRA study findings at South West Dairy Development Centre.
Introducing Oxi-Tech’s Pulse Oxidation (POd) to robotic milking systems has cut energy costs by 24% and proved to be 50 times more efficient in energy usage compared to existing treatments for automated milking systems, according to results from a DEFRA funded Innovate UK R&D project.
POd which uses just cold water and low voltage electricity to create ozone, a clean and powerful disinfectant killing bacteria, viruses and fungi, was retro-fitted to the robotic milking systems at Agri-Tech’s South West Dairy Development Centre.
The Centre’s three robotic systems were alternatively fitted with POd and conventional treatment and monitored to analyse the comparative performance of each.
Oxi-Tech’s CEO Paul Morris comments: “We were delighted with the findings of this six-month trial. The research team concluded that POd not only proved to be a cost saving, highly efficient disinfectant but also brought improvements to operator safety by eliminating the handling of harmful chemicals. The reduction in the use and disposal of plastic containers will also significantly lower a dairy unit’s Carbon footprint and contribute to its net zero target.”
